“REJOICE in the Lord
always!
Welcome
to the new Church School year
for 2009-2010!
Saint Paul tells
us not only to “pray without ceasing” but that the Christian life
is to be one of constant rejoicing!
He pens this very verse while he is in prison, in
less-than-joyful conditions, which gives us a clue to the deeper
meaning of “joy” and “rejoicing” in the Christian view.
St. Paul is not speaking about a merely-emotional type of
jubilant happiness, but one that is deep, peaceful and true.
We are to rejoice in the Lord always because Jesus is God.
He has conquered death so that none of the present sorrows of
this world will be permanent. Not
only that, He has sent and continues to sends His Holy Spirit to us so
that we can understand first-hand how it is possible to be joyful
while enduring what life throws at us.
Let’s rejoice together this Church School year and always!
One of the ways we will be doing this in the Church School
program is to raise our voices joyfully in learning some new songs
& hymns. We will also
be reviewing the Hymn of St. Paul which our Church School students
will again sing at the Great Vespers on the Eve of our Parish Feast
Day, October 28th. Mark
your calendars now to attend the Family Pot Luck Dinner & Vespers
on that night. It’s also
not too soon to begin helping your child plan his or her creative
submission for the Parish Feast Day Arts Festival!
A booklet will be sent home during the first couple weeks of
classes explaining the program.
We commend you for
making the effort to bring your children to Church School regularly.
Please remember
that regular attendance at the Divine Liturgy as a family is what
being an Orthodox Christian is all about!
May the Lord grant
us all a fruitful Church School year.

St. Paul’s Youth Chant Choir made their debut at the Christmas
Pageant on December 21st.
chanting the non-liturgical hymn “O Pure Virgin” (Agni Parthene) composed by St.
Nektarios of Aegina. The harmonious blend of their clear voices
was a lovely and reverent presentation of this beautiful hymn.
This talented group of young singers will continue to add
to their repertoire of Orthodox hymns. May God continue to bless
them as they use their vocal gifts to praise Him!

A
Few Prayers to Teach Your Children
GUARDIAN ANGEL
O Angel of God, my holy Guardian given to me from Heaven, protect and enlighten me this
day, give me strength to overcome temptations, and save me from all evil. Teach me to do
what is right, and guide me in the steps of Christ, my Savior.
ALL-HOLY TRINITY
All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Lord, cleanse us from our sins.
Master, forgive our iniquities,
Holy God, look upon our infirmities for Your Name's sake, and heal them.
A TABLE GRACE
O Christ our God, bless the
food and drink of your servants, for you are Holy always; now and ever, and
unto ages of ages. Amen.
HEAVENLY KING
O heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, Who art
everywhere present and fills all things. Treasury of Blessings and Giver of Life, come and
abide in us and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.

ENOUGH TIME?
Frequently we're asked if we have enough time to teach a lesson. The answer is -
yes! Virtually every class completes their text book by the end of the year. Our excellent
curriculum is from th Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Department of Religious Education.
Designed and written by professional educators, each lesson is structured (by design) to
be about 20 minutes in the younger grades up to about 40 minutes in the older grades. Each
year's text builds on previous experiences and knowledge. So if you asked any one of our
teachers what their wish would be in the area of time with your children, it would be
consistent and regular attendance! Regular attendance at the Divine Liturgy and at Church
School is the key to "Growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
We hope to continue to see each child regularly to put in place the building blocks of
knowledge, tend the garden of faith, make friends, join in the fellowship of the classroom
community, and have fun, too.
