Orthodox Koinonia
and Bible Study - ages 30 & up

We invite all our parishioners ages 30 and up, single and married, for our Orthodox Koinonia meetings on Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 pm! The Orthodox Koinonia  Bible Study is led by Dean Langis, our Pastoral Assistant.  Join us!

Women's Bible Study

The Women’s Bible study meets at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday morning, resumes Thursday, September 11th, 2008.

Our initial study for the new year will be the Book of Jude, which is only one short chapter of 25 verses!  Jude provides a most-interesting study because of the many Old Testament figures named.  We will take the time to dig into the Old Testament and learn about the names and themes mentioned by St. Jude.  Led by Eve Tibbs, our class meetings are informal and congenial, with opportunities to interact with the material we are studying and with one another.  Women’s Bible study is a great way to meet other women in our parish, to learn more about our Orthodox faith, and to put the Scriptures into concrete and practical terms as we discuss these important issues among friends.

The Adult Study Fellowship is a monthly Christian book club led by Father Steve that provides an opportunity for fellowship and ecumenical dialogue between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Sponsored jointly by St. Paul’s and St. John Neumann, the ASF is a structured attempt to explore a common path for Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians in living a Spirit-filled, Christ-centered life.

This is an excellent format for those who cannot make a weekly time commitment to Bible Study, Orthodox Christianity 101 or Orthodox Koinonia!

We meet on select Tuesdays at 7PM, beginning with a prayer service in the Church. All of the books are available from Joanne Lorton in our parish bookstore. Plan to join us!

Orthodox Christianity 101

Orthodox Christianity 101  is a 24 week long course in Orthodoxy intended to provide a broad overview of the content, history and practice of our faith. What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in the 21st century? We will explore the Bible and look very specifically at the New Testament. We will look at the Liturgy and the sacramental life of the Church. Why do we worship the way we do? What does it all mean? We will look at Christian history through the centuries. Where did all of these different Christian denominations come from and how do we, as Orthodox Christians, relate to them? Who are we, anyway? In addition, we will discuss personal spiritual disciplines, stewardship, Christian moral values, the development of the virtues and faithful living. No question is off limits.

St. Paul’s is a good place to explore what it means to be a believer, committed to Christ and living a Spirit filled life in the context of His community, the Church. This class is intended for those who wish only to explore Orthodoxy, for those who wish to become members of the Church and for those members of our parish family already Orthodox but interested in broadening and deepening their faith.

Childcare will be available!

WOMEN'S STUDY FELLOWSHIP

Our study, To Live is Christ – the Life and Witness of St. Paul, based on the life story of the patron of our parish, began again on Monday, January 12th, 7:00 - 9:00PM. We will then continue our study of St. Paul on Monday evenings for 12 consecutive weeks, finishing up in April. Our study does include daily "at home" reading of Scripture and homework: the answering of several related questions which we will discuss the following week.  The questions are meant to involve us more fully in developing a scriptural mind.  What does Christ have to say to us?  How do we form a relationship with Him?  How will God’s word live in my heart?  How do I apply the teachings of Christ to my daily life? St. Paul is our guide in all this and more. As a small group, we prayerfully and joyfully struggle to be the women of God we long to be.  Please contact Dorothea Love at  doroelvis@cox.net if you would like to join us.  This group is limited to 15 participants in order to allow time for discussion as we support one another in our spiritual journey as Orthodox Christians.
